  • I made this image during the first Sierra snow storm many winters ago. It was a fascinating experience to make intimate landscapes in the middle of a storm. The vibrant aspen leaves resembled sugar coated orange lollipops after this fresh dusting of snow! After making this image, I returned to the same spot later that evening. But by then, most of the aspen leaves had fallen off the trees and what was left had started to turn brown. This just went to show how ephemeral these beautiful moments with nature can be. <br />

    Aspen Leaves and Snow
  • Aspen trees all over Colorado turn into a beautiful potpourri of colors in autumn. After driving hundreds of miles, I was able to find this grove of tall standing aspens unveiling the full glory of the autumn color palette.

  • Photographing autumn colors in Colorado is a surreal experience. Groves of aspen trees, a potpourri of autumn colors and grand mountain vistas all make for incredible photo opportunities. While making this image, I was drawn to the bare silver trunks of these tall standing aspens. A lone young aspen tree provided visual relief and depth to the composition.
    Standing Tall
  • I enjoy visiting the Eastern slopes of the Sierra range in autumn. The light is often dramatic and aspens that turn gold provide an endless possibility of compositional opportunities. I had explored the same grove of aspens a few seasons before I made this image. However, the conditions had been less than ideal. While making this image, I was captivated by how brilliant this tall standing grove of aspens appeared.

    One of a Kind
  • As I drove through Aspendell one early autumn morning, the valley beneath the Sierra ridges was colored with the most vibrant shades of aspen foliage. However, grey overcast skies did not provide the right combination of elements that I was looking for. I returned to the scene later that morning once the storm clouds started to clear. The clearing accented this idyllic mountain scenery that appeared to be so full of life and color.
