I have often been drawn to making photographs of sandstone. Striations in the stone provide a rich canvas for my photographs and they make for an interesting pairing when juxtaposed with the autumn foliage.

The furrowed sandstone face provides a rough, textured backdrop while the foliage acts as a soft, delicate counter balance, in a near yin-yang setting.

This photograph was made at Zion National Park in Utah.
