• Standing at the entrance of Yosemite Valley can be a very spiritual experience. It appears as if the gods of the ancient Ahwahnechee people still reside amongst these high cliffs that guard the entrance to the valley.

Cusp of Seasons
• The quiet peace of winter is just as alluring as the vibrance of spring and autumn. This is a time for silent reflection even as nature appears to be on a temporary pause. However, as spring nears, nature undergoes a transformation - as blooming trees, gushing rivers and chirping birds return !
Stillness of Winter
• There aren’t too many places I could dream of being in a snow storm besides Yosemite. This place is a photographer’s winter wonderland as meadows turn into snow blankets and bare trees into graphic symbols.
I was drawn to this iconic elm tree that was transformed by snow pellets lashing across its face into a pointillistic work of art !

The Sentinels, Winter
• While making this image, I was drawn to the filigree like autumn foliage that seemed to be dangling delicately from the snow covered, silver branches of this wonderful oak tree.

Winter Light
• Storms that clear around sunrise are what we photographers yearn for in Yosemite. It provides the opportunity for mist to be swirling around the tops of the high cliffs. This coupled with the dramatic early morning light hold immense photographic potential. I was fortunate to encounter such fantastic conditions while I made this image!
Clearing Storm, Three Brothers
• I find it irresistible to photograph bare trees! Once they have shed their leaves, honing in on their bare trunks and branches seems to reveal their structure; almost like an inner strength ! While making this image, it appeared as if these oak trees were guarding the young pine from the elements !

Peeking Through
• I find making photographs during seasonal transitions a tantalizing experience as such scenes tend to confound the mind! While making this image, a late spring storm had spray painted the grassy meadows with a fresh coat of snow. The first light of day illuminated the top of El Capitan and turned the Merced River into a reflection pool.

• Yosemite National Park is a magical place during a snow storm. The entire park becomes a photographer’s winter wonderland. It is even more breathtaking when the storm clears revealing patches of blue sky amidst the snow covered canopy. This image was made during a brief clearing of a winter snow storm.
Black Oaks and El Capitan
• This is another such photograph that I made back in 2011. What caught my attention (besides the wintry chill), was the mist that blanketed most of the the valley floor revealing just the tops of tall pine trees and creating a near zig zag pattern as it made its way through the valley.

The mist also enveloped Yosemite's giant granite cliffs reducing many of the receding ridges to mere silhouettes adding even more mystery.

• New Zealand’s national parks are an absolute delight for a photographer - the air is clean, the landscapes are varied, and the light is incredibly conducive for photography. Luckily for me, the weather gods were cooperative too!
I would have settled for just a glimpse of Aoraki/Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. Having an opportunity to make photographs there is what dreams are made of !! The hardest part of making this image was not the hike in the dark or in the cold - it was in crossing bridges that were swinging quite wildly in the wind! After crossing the second such bridge, I was able to finally get a glimpse of Aoraki/Mount Cook. I perched myself on a rock to soak in this majestic sight and said a silent prayer in gratitude before making this photograph.
Southern Majesty
• Yosemite is an awe inspiring national park and this is particularly true during a storm. These storms allow nature's raw elements to fuse together thereby creating a rich canvas for photography.
This image was made during one such storm last year. The swirling mist from the oncoming storm hugged the top of giant granite cliffs and the ridges between them lending mystery and depth to an already dramatic scene.
